De Ierse schrijfster Christine Dwyer Hickey valt tweemaal binnen een maand in de prijzen. Eerder won ze voor haar roman The Narrow Land al de prestigieuze Walter Scott Prize. Onlangs werd bekend dat deze roman ook de winnaar is van de Dalkey Literary Award for Novel of the Year.
Jurylid Jennifer O’Connol zei over The Narrow Land:
‘This book is luscious. It draws you in. Tackling two essential truths: a long marriage and the struggle of the creative. We recognised truths in it of relationships we know. We understand the selfishness of creative people, a kind of ruthlessness we see in the artist, exploring how he gets the work on canvas. It is a beautiful book.’
Vorig jaar verscheen het werk van Christine Dwyer Hickey voor het eerst in het Nederlands. De laatste trein uit Ligurië, vertaald door Paul Bruijn en Jetty Huisman, werd enthousiast ontvangen. The Narrow Land zal in het najaar van 2021 verschijnen in Nederlandse vertaling. Daarmee is het het derde boek van Dwyer Hickey in het Nederlands; in oktober 2020 verschijnt eerst nog The Cold Eye of Heaven in het Nederlands.
